There are few bands in the world with the ability to represent their country’s history - hundreds of years of language, culture, music, song and storytelling - so powerfully. Cliar were formed in 1999 by singers Mary Ann Kennedy and Arthur Cormack. Cliar, a six-piece band based in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, captures the essence of Scotland’s Gaelic history and presents it on stage and on their albums in a way which leaves no doubt about their place at the leading edge of traditional Scottish music.
Featuring traditional and Contemporary Gaelic Song and Highland Music with Arthur Cormack (Gaelic Song), Ingrid Henderson (Piano & Clarsach), Mary Ann Kennedy (Gaelic Song & Clarsach), Maggie Macdonald (Gaelic Song), Bruce MacGregor (Fiddle) & Chaz Stewart (Guitar), this is Cliar’s debut album, which described by one BBC presenter, Anne Marie Middleton of 'Global Gathering' as' the album of the year so far', and which went on to win Best Album at the inaugural Scots Trad Music Awards.
